      House Policies

      Historical Significance

The beach in front of the house is Waikaloa Beach. The rocks on the beach are carried down the mountain by a stream and deposited on the beach.

The fish pond on the mountain side of the house is on our neighbor’s property. Please do not cross the rock wall. The fishpond is a restoration of an ancient Hawaiian fishpond that was once here. The water comes from a freshwater spring.

The rock outcropping in the front yard of the house (facing the ocean) has a small rock structure on top of it. It is a Hawaiian heiau, a place of spiritual and religious significance. It is thought that this small heiau was a family fishing shrine where offerings and prayers were made. It was possibly a marker for the beginning or boundary of an ancient ahupua’a or land division usually extending from the uplands to the sea.

      Check-out time is 11:00 a.m.

Vehicles shall be parked in the designated onsite parking area and shall not be parked on the street.

      Telephone Service

The phone number for the land line in the house is 808-248-7272. Long distance calls to the mainland and to other Hawaiian islands can be made on this phone as well as local calls on Maui (no 808 prefix is necessary when calling anywhere on Maui).

Not all carriers provide cell phone service to Hana. Verizon provides the best service however you probably will not get cell phone service in the house. Some phones get service in the front yard.

      Wireless Internet Service

We provide free wireless Internet service. The access code is in your confirmation welcome letter. Certain cellular phones can place calls using a Wi-Fi connection.

      Quiet Hours and Noise Restrictions

Quiet hours are from 9:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. During this time the noise from the short-term rental home shall not unreasonably disturb adjacent neighbors. Amplified sound that is audible beyond the property boundaries is prohibited.

      Group Restrictions

No parties or group gatherings other than registered guests are permitted on the property.

Although our property is private, the beach itself is not. The shoreline area is the property of the people of Hawai’i and it is open for everyone to enjoy.

      Washer and Dryer

The washer and dryer in the garage are available for guests to use. We do not provide laundry detergent. Please cover the washer and dryer when not in use to protect the appliances from the salt air.

      Stores and Gas

There are two stores that sell food and liquor in Hana, the Hasegawa General Store and the Hana Ranch Store. There is one gas station in Hana. All the stores are located on the Hana Highway in Hana town.

      Other Reminders

Lock the unit when you leave to safeguard your valuables. It is a good idea to leave the key in the lock box so you don’t lose it or forget to return it to the lock box when you leave.

Please turn off the fans and the lights when you leave.

Please do not feed any animals on the property.

      Pets are not permitted.

Large trash cans are in the carport for your garbage as well as a recycling can for redeemable HI-5 glass and plastic bottles and aluminum cans. No wine bottles please.

Please clean the kitchen and put away open food so as not to attract ants and insects.
